About Steven
"... his impressive, clear-toned solos..." - Cleveland Classical
Steven Cozzuli has an intense passion to help brass players of all ages through his writings and coaching. After years of intense study at a top conservatory he hopes to simplify complex ideas into easy-to-understand concepts and analogies suitable for anyone prepared to take their trumpet playing to the next level!
A northeast Ohio native, he was an avid youth performer as rotating principal trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra as well as guest soloist with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra performing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Steven has proudly been a member of the American Federation of Musicians Union Local 159 in Mansfield, OH for more than 8 years.
While obtaining an undergraduate degree at Oberlin Conservatory, Steven enjoyed numerous performance opportunities as solo and principal trumpet with the Oberlin Orchestra and Contemporary Music Ensemble under the direction of Timothy Weiss and Rafael Jiménez. He has held regular performances with multiple chamber groups in the form of Brass Trio, Brass Quintet, and Brass Ensemble. Steven previously maintained an active performing career with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra, Firelands Symphony, Buckeye Brass Quintet, and Interlakes Summer Theatre. As an orchestral musician, Steven has performed as principal trumpet in some of the world's finest concert venues, including Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, and L'Auditori in Barcelona, Spain.

Steven is currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Wyoming where he performs with the faculty brass quintet, teaches applied undergraduate lessons, and is the instructor of brass chamber music. As a soloist, he has performed Silent Night (arr. C. Martin) and Fandango (Turrin) with the UW Wind Symphony. As an international clinician, he has given masterclasses in Goiânia, Brasil. He is incredibly grateful for the many opportunities he has been given at UW, as well as the people he has worked with.
Following the ideas of the great teachers, Steven has made it a priority to use a student-specific approach to education. While teaching and coaching for more than 8 years, he has had the pleasure of being the Brass Instructor for the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra (NOYO) and Willow Arts and Wellness Center. Steven is currently a member of the Faculty at Camp Encore/Coda in Sweden, Maine, maintaining a full studio of 8-10 trumpeters each year. He strives for his students to have clear goals and sets expectations both for himself and his studio.
Graduating from as diverse an institution as Oberlin College and Conservatory, Steven is incredibly grateful for all of the growth he has achieved in his interpersonal skills. He believes it is crucial to be able to empathize with people from all backgrounds and locations and applies this to all instances of teaching and performing with a group.
