My Goals for YOU!

and more about me

My passion in life is to help brass players overcome their largest challenges.

Everything in my teaching is centered around the ideas of

  • Producing a BEAUTIFUL sound with EASE

  • Moving between registers FLUIDLY and with CONSISTENT tone

  • Energizing your playing properly for MAXIMUM ENDURANCE

  • Enforcing GOOD HABITS and replacing bad ones

  • Practicing efficiently so you can do MORE in LESS TIME

I remember enrolling at Oberlin Conservatory feeling like I was so far behind everyone else. I hadn't gone to any major music festivals and I didn't have every method book like some of my peers; attending a rural high school with a small (put proud!) music program didn't help my ego either. I was extremely lucky to be motivated by some incredible players both at Oberlin and online thanks to the age of streaming.

I was starving to learn everything I could and improve as fast as possible.

Over the next 8 semesters I absorbed every ounce of knowledge presented to me and started to overcome my personal challenges playing the trumpet (and there were LOTS). Now, this doesn't mean I was practicing 5 hours a day and busting my chops! I learned how to use my time wisely and make sure each moment mattered. This was KEY to my success.

Now, I've had time to organize my thoughts and put them into action. I have been given wonderful teaching and performing opportunities throughout the country through high-quality institutions such as the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra, University of Wyoming, and Camp Encore/Coda that have grown my confidence and experience. I have been lucky enough to perform in some of the world’s greatest concert halls, including multiple performances in Severance Hall and Carnegie Hall, respective homes of The Cleveland Orchestra and New York Philharmonic. To maintain and improve upon my standard, I have an excellent understanding of what I hope to achieve each day and am able to accomplish my goals. I want to continue to help struggling trumpet players be just as successful in leaping over their largest hurdles!

Equipment

For online teaching I use an AT2020 USB Plus condenser mic and high-quality headphones for the best experience possible.

I recommend my students use any microphone other than a cellphone, although not required.
